2017 Rowing BC Fall Masters Camp

October 7, 2017 - October 9, 2017

Rowing BC is excited to be offering a series of Masters Rowing Camps over the next year.

Thank you to everyone who completed the Masters Rowing Camp survey earlier in the Summer. Your feedback has assisted us to shape the content planned for our camps.

The following camps are being planned:

  • Fall 2017 – Lower Mainland (Burnaby Lake, October 8-9th following the Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta)
  • Spring 2018 – Island (Nanaimo Rowing Club, date TBD after release of 2018 regatta calendar)
  • Summer 2018 – Interior (Vernon Rowing Club, date TBD after release of 2018 regatta calendar)

Fall Masters Camp: Burnaby Lake, October 8-9th

  • Saturday, October 7th evening (intro and dinner)
  • Sunday, October 8th full day
  • Monday, October 9th half day (morning)

This camp is intended to make use of the long weekend, and complement the Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta. This camp will be restricted to rowers in singles. Interested participants can compete in the regatta on Saturday, October 7th and stay to engage in the camp on the following two days. Others may choose to not be part of the regatta, but complete the camp on October 8th and 9th. Participants will benefit from the coaching of Rowing BC Provincial Coach, Rob Richards and Delta Deas Rowing Club Head Coach, Drew Edwards. Included in your registration fee, this two-day camp includes:

  • three on-water rowing sessions
  • two video analysis sessions
  • a stretching/flexibility session with a Performance Institute Trainer
  • catered lunch
  • social opportunities over group dinner on both Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th
  • Open Forum Discussion – bring your questions and ideas!
  • Rowing BC technical long-sleeve for each participant

Rob Richards:
Shortly after winning a Silver medal for Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Rob retired from High Performance rowing and has since focused on coaching. His coaching roles prior to 2015 in Australia, and since 2015 here in BC, have provided him opportunities to work with rowers of all stages of development ranging in age from Juniors to Masters. Rob had the honour of watching his athlete, Kieanna Stephens, win a Bronze Medal in the W2x at the World Junior Rowing Championships.

Drew Edwards:
Over the last 11 years of coaching Drew has held the roles of lead coach for St Catharines Para Rowing & assistant coach for Junior Boys,  and been the Row Ontario Para Coach. His athletes have been named to the CanAmMex Team and received gold medals at several Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Regattas. Drew is a trained Performance Coach and currently uses his expertise to work with Juniors and Masters alike at the Delta Deas Rowing Club.

Want to be involved?
Participants are expected to arrange their own equipment, equipment transportation, and accommodation (if necessary). No long-term trailer parking will be available. All equipment will be stored on-site in a designated area.  Club trailers attending the Burnaby Lake Small Boat Regatta are expected to vacate the parking lot by the end of the day on Saturday, October 7th.

The camp will be open to 16 participants. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis as confirmed by complete registration and payment. Those interested in attending should submit their email address using the link below. Registration will open on Tuesday, September 12th at 12 PM. A registration link will be sent by email directly to those who have indicated interest in advance through the form. Make sure not to miss out!

The Fall Lower Mainland Camp will be $285 per participant. At the time of registration, payment can be made online through PayPal, or by mailed cheque. Additional payment details will be available when registration opens.

This camp will also provide a coach mentorship opportunity for two interested coaches. This would be an excellent opportunity for any coaches interested in finding out more about coaching Masters. To find out more, please directly email paracoach@rowingbc.ca.

Registration is now open!

To complete your registration, follow the button below to submit an online registration form, then send payment of $285 to Rowing BC (via cheque to 155-3820 Cessna Drive, Richmond, BC V7B 0A2 or www.paypal.me/rowingbc/285). Your registration will be confirmed when both components have been received.

Additional details will be made available to participants in the week leading up to the camp. For any other inquiries, please contact Rowing BC Programs and Communications Coordinator, Sonja Lonne.

We look forward to a great weekend of training with you in October!
