The annual Coach of the Year Awards recognize outstanding coaches in British Columbia for their dedication and contribution to sport. Founded by the Coaches Association of BC, the Coach of the Year Awards celebrate community leaders who continually inspire athletes to realize and reach their potential.The award is offered in two categories: High Performance and Community Coach

High Performance Coach: the nominee primarily coaches athletes at the international level

Community Coach: the nominee coaches grassroots or recreational athletes of any age

The Coaching Association of Canada offers three awards: the Geoff Gowan Lifetime Contribution to Coaching Award, the Jack Donohue Coach of the Year Award, and the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award

Geoff Gowan Lifetime Contribution to Coaching Award

The award recognizes lifetime contribution to coaching development. It is awarded to a coach who has presented a positive public image of coaching and enhanced the role of the coach with the Canadian public.

Jack Donohue Coach of the Year Award

Recognizes the outstanding contributions of a Canadian Coach who exemplifies the great qualities of the legendary Jack Donohue. These qualities include: honesty, integrity, a positive attitude, competitiveness, and a love of sport. Jack taught his athletes to value life, its experiences, and the passion of playing for your country.

Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award

To recognize coaches whose athletes have excelled at World Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and at the Special Olympics World Games. Coaches must have coached an athlete or team who won gold, silver, or bronze in an eligible competition.

Additional Award Requirements: Nominee must be supported by the athlete/team and coach must be NCCP competition certified; Other documents required: head shot, action shot, biography, official medal performance result, copy of event start list.

NCCP Coach Developer Awards recognize outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond to develop certified and trained NCCP coaches in their communities. This award is offered in two streams: Community NCCP Coach Developer and National NCCP Coach Developer.

 

Community NCCP Coach Developer Award: Nominees must have a minimum 5 years experience as a certified NCCP Coach Developer

National NCCP Coach Developer Award: Nominees must have a minimum 10 years experience as a certified NCCP Coach Developer, minimum 5 years experience qualified to deliver MCD

Rowing Canada Coach of the Year Award

Recognizes a Club Coach who has produced outstanding crews or individual athletes in competitive activities at the Provincial and National level in the immediate past season/year.  To be considered, the Coach must also be someone who demonstrates a personal commitment to coaching excellence and has been continuously involved in RCA’s National Coaching Education Program; demonstrates the values of fair play, good sportsmanship and respect for officials; promotes the development of athletes’ abilities both on and off the water and, has the respect of his or her peers.

Rowing Canada Long Service Award

Any RCA participant or organization who has served as a rowing volunteer, in any capacity for 15 years or greater is entitled to receive a Long Service Award. Both individual persons and organizations are eligible.

Rowing Canada Jack Micholson Coaching Bursary

The Jack Nicholson Coaching Bursary is awarded annually at the discretion of the selection committee to an RCA Club Coach who has demonstrated a commitment to Coach Education and Development and is looking to further their training

Prize: Up to $2000

Recognizes a one female and one male coach who has been responsible for coaching an amateur team or individual athletes at any level of athletic competition.
