The camp will include two and a half days of rowing\, cross-country mountain biking and hiking. Experienced Masters coaches will facilitate technical focused rows and video analysis each morning\, followed by an exciting non-rowing experience each afternoon on Silver Star Mountain. Participants will have the chance to bond over their new sport experiences and enjoying a group dinner each evening. If you’re looking for an active way to spend the Labor Day Long Weekend\, this is it! \nGuest Coach Jessica Lowe learned to row at Boston University and from 2000 – 2010 was a member of Seattle’s Pocock Rowing Center where she helped obtain several wins for the club as stroke and team member of the Women’s 8+ including a Bronze in the Head of the Charles Club 8+\, 1st place at the San Diego Crew Classic and several wins at the Opening Day regatta\, Canadian Masters and US Masters National Rowing Championships.  As masters coach at the Vancouver Rowing Club she shepherded  the W 40+ 4+ to a 2nd place finish at the 2017 Head of the Charles Regatta. Jessica has also competed in sculling and appreciates the differences between the two disciplines. At the Vancouver Rowing Club she coaches both sculling and sweep. This camp will provide the opportunity to experience reacting to a sea swell and other open-water features as well as practice turning and beach launching before shifting focus onto the World Championships race course structure and practising on a mock-course set up at Jericho. The weekend will conclude with a race following the real World Championships course set-up. \n Amidst the on-water components\, participants will also enjoy “Stories from the Sea” – a series of photo stories from rowers who have had experiences like rowing across the Atlantic! The weekend will be a chance to expand your rowing network\, and get to know others from across the province through group lunches and dinners. This camp is being run to encourage participation in coastal rowing and expand awareness of coastal rowing. This camp is targeted at participants with previous rowing experience equivalent to being comfortable rowing a flatwater 1x\, and those with coastal experience. All participants must be able to swim. Coaching/instruction will be provided through on-land prep sessions before going out for each row. SUMMARY:Dealing with Conflict in Rowing (Victoria)
DESCRIPTION:Dealing with Conflict in Rowing\nRoyal Roads University (Victoria\, BC)\nSaturday\, July 6th 9:00-11:00 AM\nRegister HERE. \nRowing BC desires to support its community members in learning strategies to deal with the inevitable conflicts that can and do arise. This workshop is part of a three part series being hosted throughout 2019. Part 1 was offered specifically to Umpires at their January 2019 Annual Seminar. Part 2 is being offered in July to all members of the BC rowing community. Part 3 will be offered in association with the Rowing BC AGM in November 2019 for all members of the BC rowing community. \nEach of these sessions will be focused on building a solid foundation for conflict resolution\, providing participants with a common language and toolkit for dealing with difficult people. Sessions will provide an experiential learning opportunity for practice and application of tools and skills introduced. Sessions will be based on activities and application of knowledge and skills that require all participants to engage. All activities will be applicable to the specific culture of Rowing BC and enable participants to explore how they can translate what they learn into a ‘real life’ context. \nAt the end of this workshop\, participants will be equipped with strategies and skills to minimize and diffuse tense situations with difficult people\, to avoid the escalation of conflict and to engage more strongly in problem solving and collaboration. Participants will have a common language and toolkit that can be used across the organization\, enabling Rowing BC’s members to more effectively deal with difficult people and ultimately\, make a difference in dealing with conflict more constructively. \nSessions will be facilitated by Patricia Galaczy. \nPatricia Galaczy\, BA\, M.I.R.\, has accumulated over 10\, 000 hours teaching and facilitating People\nLeaders\, expertly guiding thousands of individuals through Leadership\, Management\, and Mindfulness\ncurriculum. She is the Director of The Art of Dialogue\, Associate Faculty with the Justice Institute of\nBritish Columbia’s Centre for Leadership\, and Associate Faculty with Royal Roads University. DESCRIPTION:Dealing with Conflict in Rowing\nRichmond Olympic Oval (Richmond\, BC)\nSunday\, July 7th 1:00-4:00 PM\nRegister HERE. \nRowing BC desires to support its community members in learning strategies to deal with the inevitable conflicts that can and do arise. This workshop is part of a three part series being hosted throughout 2019. Part 1 was offered specifically to Umpires at their January 2019 Annual Seminar. Part 2 is being offered in July to all members of the BC rowing community. Part 3 will be offered in association with the Rowing BC AGM in November 2019 for all members of the BC rowing community. \nEach of these sessions will be focused on building a solid foundation for conflict resolution\, providing participants with a common language and toolkit for dealing with difficult people. Sessions will provide an experiential learning opportunity for practice and application of tools and skills introduced. Sessions will be based on activities and application of knowledge and skills that require all participants to engage. All activities will be applicable to the specific culture of Rowing BC and enable participants to explore how they can translate what they learn into a ‘real life’ context. \nAt the end of this workshop\, participants will be equipped with strategies and skills to minimize\nand diffuse tense situations with difficult people\, to avoid the escalation of conflict and to engage more\nstrongly in problem solving and collaboration. Participants will have a common language and toolkit\nthat can be used across the organization\, enabling Rowing BC’s members to more effectively deal\nwith difficult people and ultimately\, make a difference in dealing with conflict more constructively. \nSessions will be facilitated by Patricia Galaczy. \nPatricia Galaczy\, BA\, M.I.R.\, has accumulated over 10\, 000 hours teaching and facilitating People\nLeaders\, expertly guiding thousands of individuals through Leadership\, Management\, and Mindfulness\ncurriculum. She is the Director of The Art of Dialogue\, Associate Faculty with the Justice Institute of\nBritish Columbia’s Centre for Leadership\, and Associate Faculty with Royal Roads University. The camp will include a one-on-one rigging session to help each participant set their boat up for maximal efficiency\, on-water sessions followed by video analysis\, as well as on-land sessions focused on strength & conditioning specific to the needs of Masters athletes. Participants should be comfortable rowing a racing 1x or 2-. All participants are required to provide their own equipment (secure storage will be provided on-site). Those wanting to participate in a 2- must provide their own partner. Registration includes a limited-edition Rowing BC Masters Camp longsleeve technical shirt. \nCoaching: \nCoaching will be provided by Rowing BC Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, and former National Team Coach\, Roger Meager. \nShortly after winning a Silver medal for Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympics\, Rob retired from High Performance rowing and has since focused on coaching. His coaching roles prior to 2015 in Australia\, and since 2015 here in BC\, have provided him opportunities to work with rowers of all stages of development ranging in age from Juniors to Masters. \nRoger been coaching for 37 years 4 months after initially getting into the sport of rowing at the age of 15. DESCRIPTION:Location: Virtual \nDescription: RCA Learn to Row (LTR) Coach Virtual workshop (Part A) via Zoom Sunday\, August 14th\, from 2:30-6:30pm. This is the first part of the RCA LTR Coach Virtual workshop. Part B is the following Sunday\, August 21st. Participants must complete a practical task in between the two workshops. \nCost for the LTR Coach Virtual Workshop (including Part A and Part B) is $150. Payment should be sent by e-transfer to payments@rowingbc.ca\, using the subject line “RCA LTR Coach Virtual Workshop Payment” and including the participant name in the notes. Payment should be received prior to the workshop. \nRegistration: There are two steps to register\, so please make sure to complete both \n\nTo register on the Coaches Association of Canada please click here\nTo register with Rowing BC for the workshop please click here\n\nRegistrations close on August 8\, 2022. DESCRIPTION:The Rowing BC Junior Performance Camps provide performance oriented athletes\, in the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Train to Compete Stage\, to join some of the top Junior Athletes in British Columbia. Included will be BC’s next wave of Junior Athletes with aspirations to row at the highest levels\, BC Champs\, Junior National Trials\, CanAmMex and Junior World Championships. \nRowing BC Performance Camps are designed to enhance the skills and competitive readiness of athletes through targeted training and development.
