SUMMARY:CAMP: Spring Break Junior Development Camp
DESCRIPTION:Rowing BC Spring Break Camp\nMarch 27-30\, 2023 at Elk Lake \nSpring Break provides an excellent time to fit in some additional training for athletes in performance programs all across the province. Rowing BC is aware that many programs are already offering their own camp opportunities. If that is the case for you\, we encourage that you take advantage of what is available from your home rowing organization. As referenced in the 2023 Rowing BC Junior Development Pathway\, for those who do not have access to performance training camps over Spring Break\, Rowing BC has created an additional opportunity taking place March 27-30\, 2023 based out of the Elk Lake Boathouse. \nU19 athletes who have been identified through results at Beat the Beast\, Kraken Erg\, and/or Elk Lake Spring Regatta have been individually invited to attend this training camp opportunity and should have received a direct registration link in their inbox already. \nIn addition\, U17 athletes that are interested in training alongside other performance-focused Juniors are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to Rowing BC’s Director of Performance\, Terry Paul\, and will be included as space allows. \nThis camp will be coached by Rowing BC’s Director of Performance\, Terry Paul\, with additional support from other coaches of Junior athletes. The purpose of the camp is to bring together Junior athletes with similarly aligned performance goals to train alongside one another with access to coaches and services that may not be available in their home training environment. Throughout the camp\, the focus will be on development and assessment of Junior athletes\, including physiological monitoring (Lactate Step Test on a C2 Ergometer) and a movement screen performed by Canadian Sport Institute Strength and Conditioning Specialists. DESCRIPTION:Development Camp (Mill Bay)\nRowing BC\, with support from Brentwood College School Rowing\, will be hosting a Development Camp at Brentwood College School August 8-11\, 2021. This is an opportunity to train alongside other top performing athletes with similar performance goals. \nThe general schedule of the camp will be as follows: \n \nTwo camp streams will be available: \n\nBC Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing their Zone at the 2022 BC Summer Games (must be either U17 or U19 as of December 31\, 2022). Athletes from all Zones are encouraged to engage in this early preparation opportunity to become familiar with the race expectations of the BC Summer Games.\nCanada Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing BC at the 2021 Canada Summer Games (must be U21 as of December 31\, 2021) which were postponed due to the pandemic\, and will now be held in Summer 2022. This is an opportunity to train alongside other athletes performing at a high level\, and benefit from world-class coaching and facilities.\n\nAthletes will be divided during on-water sessions based on the stream they have signed up to train with. Mental Performance Sessions will be provided for all streams of camp participants. These sessions will be led by experts provided by the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. On-water sessions will be coached by: \n\nRob Richards – Rowing BC Provincial Head Coach\nMartin George – Rowing BC Provincial Para Coach and Manager of Coach Education & Inclusion\nStacy Mitchell – Head Coach\, Salt Spring Island Rowing Club and Rowing BC President\nBrent Duncan – Acting Head of Rowing\, St. George’s School\n\nThe camp cost is all inclusive – covering coaching\, equipment\, meals\, accommodation and workshops. DESCRIPTION:Spring U19 Development Camp\nDate: March 23-27\, 2020\nLocation: Delta Deas Rowing Club\nStart time each day: 7:30 AM \nRowing BC in partnership with the Delta Deas Rowing Club is holding an on-water development camp open for all U19 athletes who are looking to improve their on-water skills and aerobic base in readiness for the upcoming  regatta season. \nThis years camp will be include two focus streams – Development & Performance. The Development Stream is intended for BC Summer Games eligible athletes (U17 or U19 as of December 31\, 2020)\, and all novice athletes looking to improve their on-water abilities. The Performance Stream is intended for all athletes registered with CSI in 2020\, athletes seeking selection onto a RCA or Rowing BC team in 2020\, and athletes looking to compete at CSSRA or Canadian Henley in 2020. Daily session volume will range from 12-18 km. \nCosts for this camp vary by participant. DESCRIPTION:Development Camp (Mill Bay)\nRowing BC\, with support from Brentwood College School Rowing\, will be hosting a Development Camp at Brentwood College School August 22-25\, 2019. This is an opportunity to train alongside other top performing athletes with similar performance goals. \nFour camp streams will be available: \n\nBC Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing their Zone at the 2020 BC Summer Games (must be either U17 or U19 as of December 31\, 2020). This stream will be coached by Rowing BC’s Coaching Coordinator and Para Coach\, Martin George\, and Victoria City Rowing Club Coach\, Leanne Savage\, with support from the coaches selected as Head and Assistant Coaches for each 2020 BC Summer Games Zone from across the province. Athletes from all Zones are encouraged to engage in this early preparation opportunity to become familiar with the race expectations of the BC Summer Games\, and with the coaching staff who have been selected.\nCanada Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing BC at the 2021 Canada Summer Games (must be U21 as of December 31\, 2021). This stream will be coached by Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, with support from RCA NextGen UVIC HUB coach\, Samantha Heron. This is an opportunity to train alongside other athletes performing at a high level\, and benefit from world-class coaching and facilities.\nUniversity Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes wanting to freshen up before heading back to university rowing in September. This steam will be supported by RCA NextGen HUB coaches and other coaches with Olympic experience. This is an ideal preparation opportunity in the final weeks of summer for those preparing for the intense Fall university rowing season.\nCoxswain Development Stream: This stream is limited to the first four coxswains who apply. Coaching will be provided by RCA National Team Coxswain\, Jane Gumley.\n\nAthletes will be divided during on-water sessions based on the stream they have signed up to train with. Nutrition and Mental Performance Sessions will be provided for all streams of camp participants. These sessions will be led by experts provided by the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (Vanessa Zoras for Nutrition\, and Danielle Kabush & Geoff Hackett for Mental Performance). \nThe general schedule of the camp will be as follows: \n \nThe camp cost is all inclusive – covering coaching\, equipment\, meals\, accommodation and workshops. DESCRIPTION:U19 Development Camp (Vernon)\nRowing BC\, with support from the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boating Club\, will be hosting a U19 Development Camp at Swan Lake May 4-5\, 2019. \nThis camp is intended for U19 athletes interested in experiencing a performance development camp. It is an ideal training opportunity for athletes from Zone 1 (Kootenays)\, 2 (Thompson-Okanagan)\, 7 (North West) and 8 (Cariboo-North East) with goals of attending the 2020 BC Summer Games. This camp will include on-water sessions coached by Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, as well as an athlete nutrition session led by Vernon’s P.E.A.R Nutrition\, dryland training led by physio and rower\, Derek Geldrich\, and a special talk from Olympic rower\, Lauren Wilkinson. It is an opportunity to be challenged in a slightly different way than daily club-based training\, and connect with athletes from the wider area who are striving for similar goals. \nParticipants should be comfortable (not an expert\, but comfortable) in a racing single. Home club coaches are expected to help arrange access and transportation for singles for their athletes to use at this camp. DESCRIPTION:There has been a great response from BC athletes wishing to represent Team BC at this year’s Canada Summer Games.
