SUMMARY:Development Camp (Mill Bay)
DESCRIPTION:Development Camp (Mill Bay)\nRowing BC\, with support from Brentwood College School Rowing\, will be hosting a Development Camp at Brentwood College School August 8-11\, 2021. This is an opportunity to train alongside other top performing athletes with similar performance goals. \nThe general schedule of the camp will be as follows: \n \nTwo camp streams will be available: \n\nBC Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing their Zone at the 2022 BC Summer Games (must be either U17 or U19 as of December 31\, 2022). Athletes from all Zones are encouraged to engage in this early preparation opportunity to become familiar with the race expectations of the BC Summer Games.\nCanada Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing BC at the 2021 Canada Summer Games (must be U21 as of December 31\, 2021) which were postponed due to the pandemic\, and will now be held in Summer 2022. This is an opportunity to train alongside other athletes performing at a high level\, and benefit from world-class coaching and facilities.\n\nAthletes will be divided during on-water sessions based on the stream they have signed up to train with. Mental Performance Sessions will be provided for all streams of camp participants. These sessions will be led by experts provided by the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. On-water sessions will be coached by: \n\nRob Richards – Rowing BC Provincial Head Coach\nMartin George – Rowing BC Provincial Para Coach and Manager of Coach Education & Inclusion\nStacy Mitchell – Head Coach\, Salt Spring Island Rowing Club and Rowing BC President\nBrent Duncan – Acting Head of Rowing\, St. George’s School\n\nThe camp cost is all inclusive – covering coaching\, equipment\, meals\, accommodation and workshops. DESCRIPTION:Regatta Title: Head of the Nicomekl\nHost Organization: Nicomekl Rowing Club \nThis is a friendly regatta\, great for first time regatta experience\, and also for those preparing for the Head of the Charles Regatta wanting experience on a windy river course. The day consists of two 6000m races. One where participants race against rowers in their own boat class\, and the second where a handicap system is used to compare all boat classes against each other for an overall winner. Athletes can enter both races\, and many do. SUMMARY:Head and Tail of the Gorge
DESCRIPTION:Head and Tail of the Gorge hosted by University of Victoria Rowing. \nThese two regattas are an iconic BC event to attend. Each day\, racing takes place on the Gorge Narrows for all categories of athletes. Viewers can watch from the Tillicum Narrows Bridge as boats navigate through the rushing water at the narrows\, making this a very spectator-friendly event. Historically\, athletes have used this as an opportunity to dress up in Halloween costumes while racing. DESCRIPTION:Head Up the Creek hosted by False Creek Rowing Club. \nThis 5000m event has historically been held in March at the start of the Head Race season\, but has moved to this date in hopes of better weather\, and to provide a clear end to the Head Race season on the Lower Mainland. This event is primarily attended by JR athletes looking for race experience\, and SR/MA athletes looking for a race opportunity close to home. It mostly attracts attendees from the Lower Mainland. The environment is purposefully designed to be welcoming for those newer to regattas. DESCRIPTION:Location: Virtual \nDescription:  \nRowing BC is looking for female youth athletes to be involved in a pilot of the Game On Leadership Program. \nAcross Canada\, as many as one in three girls leave sport by age fourteen. In 2019\, 43 percent of adolescent girls in Canada cited that the quality of sport programs available to them was a barrier to their participation. When girls leave sport prematurely\, they miss out on the potential for improved physical health\, higher self-esteem\, increased social competence\, greater academic performance\, and stronger leadership abilities. In addition to the personal benefits\, retaining girls in sport and creating avenues to pursue leadership positions in sport increases visibility and representation for the next generation of girls to foster positive relationships and be inspired through sport. \nThe Game On activities are designed to be safe\, inclusive\, and developmentally appropriate\, building social connections\, offering positive experiences\, and increasing girls’ understanding of the value of sport in their lives. Any Junior (youth) rowers who identify as female are encouraged to attend. \nEach week\, participants will learn new life skills such as confidence\, teamwork\, goal setting\, and communication to enhance their current experience in sport and to foster leadership in their lives beyond sport.
