SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Game On Leadership Training
DESCRIPTION:Location: Virtual \nDescription:  \nRowing BC is looking for female youth athletes to be involved in a pilot of the Game On Leadership Program. \nAcross Canada\, as many as one in three girls leave sport by age fourteen. In 2019\, 43 percent of adolescent girls in Canada cited that the quality of sport programs available to them was a barrier to their participation. When girls leave sport prematurely\, they miss out on the potential for improved physical health\, higher self-esteem\, increased social competence\, greater academic performance\, and stronger leadership abilities. In addition to the personal benefits\, retaining girls in sport and creating avenues to pursue leadership positions in sport increases visibility and representation for the next generation of girls to foster positive relationships and be inspired through sport. \nThe Game On activities are designed to be safe\, inclusive\, and developmentally appropriate\, building social connections\, offering positive experiences\, and increasing girls’ understanding of the value of sport in their lives. Any Junior (youth) rowers who identify as female are encouraged to attend. \nEach week\, participants will learn new life skills such as confidence\, teamwork\, goal setting\, and communication to enhance their current experience in sport and to foster leadership in their lives beyond sport. Through positive coaching and role-modelling\, participants will be given the tools they need to become leaders in sport\, encourage others to participate\, build a community of women and girl athletes\, and stay in the game. \nRowing BC will be hosting this eight-week program virtually on Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 PM from Feb. 3rd to Mar. 24th. \nRegistration: No cost to attend\, but pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:REGATTA: Elk Lake Spring Regatta
DESCRIPTION:Elk Lake Spring Regatta hosted by Victoria City Rowing Club.  \nLocation: Elk Lake \nDescription: This 1850m sprint race is an opportunity to kick-start the Spring racing season\, both for performance athletes\, and for others just looking for an event early in the season. It is primarily attended by teams from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland\, with some additional reach into the Pacific NorthWest and/or Alberta. This is a common starting point to the Spring racing season\, however\, which event athletes attend next is very dependent on the athlete stream. This is a first chance to race after the winter\, see how winter training went\, and finally get back on the water. A new LOC will be taking over the running of this event in 2022 and may incorporate some components of what was previously the Dueling Over a Grand regatta format. \nRegistration: Registration and more information available HERE closer to the regatta date.
