DESCRIPTION:Date: August 25th\nLocation: Tulista Park\, Sidney\nHosts: Rowing BC\, OARCA\,Victoria City Rowing Club\nTopic: World Coastal Rowing Championships Preparation\nMinimum participants: 12\nCost to participate: $100 \nThroughout the Spring and Summer\, the Victoria City Rowing Club is offering T/Th coastal rowing come and try/practice sessions in Sidney\, BC to allow participants an opportunity to get comfortable in the coastal equipment in the lead up to the 2018 World Rowing Coastal Championships being held in Sidney October 11-14th. (To get involved in these sessions\, interested participants can contact clubadmin@vcrc.bc.ca.) \nTo wrap up the Summer\, this one-day camp will provide a mini taste of what the World Rowing Coastal Championships will be like. Hosted on the official World Championships course\, camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the course for practice purposes\, and then complete the day with a fun race experience. A group lunch will provide the opportunity for coastal rowing enthusiasts from across the province to get to know each other more\, and get excited for the upcoming World Championships! The camp will include two and a half days of rowing\, cross-country mountain biking and hiking. Experienced Masters coaches will facilitate technical focused rows and video analysis each morning\, followed by an exciting non-rowing experience each afternoon on Silver Star Mountain. Participants will have the chance to bond over their new sport experiences and enjoying a group dinner each evening. If you’re looking for an active way to spend the Labor Day Long Weekend\, this is it! \nGuest Coach Jessica Lowe learned to row at Boston University and from 2000 – 2010 was a member of Seattle’s Pocock Rowing Center where she helped obtain several wins for the club as stroke and team member of the Women’s 8+ including a Bronze in the Head of the Charles Club 8+\, 1st place at the San Diego Crew Classic and several wins at the Opening Day regatta\, Canadian Masters and US Masters National Rowing Championships.  As masters coach at the Vancouver Rowing Club she shepherded  the W 40+ 4+ to a 2nd place finish at the 2017 Head of the Charles Regatta. Jessica has also competed in sculling and appreciates the differences between the two disciplines. At the Vancouver Rowing Club she coaches both sculling and sweep. She is passionate in helping rowers establish a strong technical and fitness base that will allow them to successfully pursue any level of rowing they desire. \nRegistration includes a limited-edition Rowing BC Masters Camp long-sleeved technical shirt for all participants. This camp will provide the opportunity to experience reacting to a sea swell and other open-water features as well as practice turning and beach launching before shifting focus onto the World Championships race course structure and practising on a mock-course set up at Jericho. The weekend will conclude with a race following the real World Championships course set-up. \n Amidst the on-water components\, participants will also enjoy “Stories from the Sea” – a series of photo stories from rowers who have had experiences like rowing across the Atlantic! The weekend will be a chance to expand your rowing network\, and get to know others from across the province through group lunches and dinners. DESCRIPTION:The Rowing BC Annual Umpire Recertification Seminar will take place at the Shoal Centre in Sidney\, BC on January 19\, 2019 9:15 AM-4:00 PM. \nThis Seminar is an opportunity for all umpires and associates to meet the newer umpires\, visit with old friends\, learn from each other and build the camaraderie that makes umpiring so rewarding. \nRegister to attend here. \nTransportation will be arranged for those travelling by ferry from the Mainland. Please be sure to indicate your need on the registration form so car pools can be planned accordingly once on the Island. \n2019 UMPIRE COMMITTEE CALL FOR NOMINATIONS \nRowing BC is seeking nominations for individuals to fill positions to be elected to the Rowing BC Umpire Committee during the Annual Umpire Recertification Seminar on January 19\, 2019 in Sidney\, BC. \nThe Umpire Committee is authorized by the Rowing BC By-Laws to conduct their business in accordance with the Umpire Committee Terms of Reference.  The Umpire Committee is responsible for developing and implementing plans and programs in support of the education and development of Umpires in British Columbia. The overall goal of the Umpire Committee is to ensure that Rowing BC and its member organizations have access to a pool of qualified and educated umpires of all levels\, and those individuals in British Columbia who want to become Umpires or to improve their skills as Umpires have access to the training and development opportunities they require.  The Umpire Committee shall report to the Executive Director via the Chairperson. \nThe Umpire Committee will be elected by those Licensed Umpires in British Columbia in attendance at the Annual Umpire Recertification Seminar. The Umpire Committee shall consist of between four (4) to seven (7) individuals as follows: \n\nUp to six (6) Licensed Umpire Representatives\nOne (1) President of Rowing BC\n\nTerm-lengths and number of elected Umpire Representatives each year will be established so as to allow for turnover of half of the Umpire Committee on an annual basis. Generally\, term-lengths will be 2 years. Following their term\, Umpire Representatives may stand for re-election.  The Umpire Committee can appoint a Licensed Umpire to fill a vacancy. \nPlease submit your intent to stand for election via email to Rowing BC Executive Director\, David Calder by Friday\, January 11\, 2019. Individuals are encouraged to submit an accompanying 250 word biography introducing themselves to the umpire community to help inform the election process. Names and biographies of individuals up for election will be emailed to all Umpires in advance of the Recertification Seminar. There will be no nominations from the floor.
