SUMMARY:Monthly Conference Content Series - Diversity and Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:Rowing BC has designed a Monthly Conference Content Series to deliver valuable content and resources to you\, our membership\, consistently throughout the year in a virtual setting. Once a month Rowing BC will host an evening special topic presentation followed by an open opportunity to bring up other ongoing questions/comments/concerns with Rowing BC’s President\, Executive Director\, and Head Provincial Coach. \nDiversity and inclusion are two of the most important topics in Canada today. Openly discussing these issues has the potential to positively address biases and prejudices that happen within our community\, and learn how to embrace our differences.  Including the valuable inputs and perspectives all members bring to your club will not only create a more positive environment but will foster opportunities for growth.  Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy sport that is welcoming\, inclusive and accessible to all. \nThe December conference session will have two parts\, an overview of diversity and inclusion\, followed by a look at what including those on the autism spectrum actually looks and feels like. This session is Part One of a larger series Rowing BC will be hosting in the coming months looking at including under-represented groups in your programming. \nAccess complete information here

SUMMARY:Monthly Conference Content Series - Coaching and Leading Safe Sport
DESCRIPTION:Rowing BC has designed a Monthly Conference Content Series to deliver valuable content and resources to you\, our membership\, consistently throughout the year in a virtual setting. Once a month Rowing BC will host an evening special topic presentation followed by an open opportunity to bring up other ongoing questions/comments/concerns with Rowing BC’s President\, Executive Director\, and Head Provincial Coach. \nSafeSport is a familiar phrase. Putting it into practice\, however\, is a lot more than recognizing the phrase or posting a series of updated policies on your website. It comes down to changing the underlying philosophy driving behaviour and interactions. This session will introduce recent work related to SafeSport\, and then delve deeper into how proactive vs. reactive communication can assist leaders (coaches\, umpires\, Board members\, administrators\, managers etc.) to create environments that don’t just align with SafeSport in theory\, but really help athletes to thrive. \nRegister HERE.

SUMMARY:Elk Lake Spring Regatta (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Elk Lake Spring Regatta hosted by University of Victoria men’s and women’s rowing programs. \nThis 1850m sprint race is an opportunity to kick-start the Spring racing season\, both for performance athletes\, and for others just looking for an event early in the season. It is primarily attended by teams from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland\, with some additional reach into the Pacific NorthWest and/or Alberta. This is a common starting point to the Spring racing season\, however\, which event athletes attend next is very dependent on the athlete stream. This is a first chance to race after the winter\, see how winter training went\, and finally get back on the water. \nTo learn more about University of Victoria Rowing click here \nComplete Event Information and Registration will be available through Regatta Central here closer to the event date. \n

SUMMARY:Lower Mainland Spring Regatta (tentative)
DESCRIPTION:*New Addition* Lower Mainland Spring Regatta  \nThis new addition is intended to be a 2000m racing opportunity (1000m for MA) on the Lower Mainland to fill the gap of meaningful racing for Lower Mainland and Interior athletes in the early Spring season. This event has been placed to allow athletes to still attend the Elk Lake Spring Regatta\, if interested. It is not considered a conflict with the Dueling Over a Grand regatta\, as this event is targeted at athletes who have not historically attended Dueling Over a Grand. A location and Local Organizing Committee will be determined with the help of Rowing BC. \nComplete Event Information and Registration will be available through Regatta Central here closer to the event date.

SUMMARY:Dueling Over a Grand (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Dueling Over a Grand hosted by Victoria City Rowing Club. \nThis 1000m event is regularly attended by two distinct groups of athletes – high performance athletes (including the National Team) looking for race experience in a 1x\, and JR/MR interested in getting race experience and becoming more familiar with racing. It is primarily attended by athletes from Vancouver Island. It’s interesting\, fun format allows athletes to test different tactics\, and build race experience in the same crew\, and same event\, over a single weekend. \nLearn more about Victoria City Rowing Club here \nComplete Event Information and Registration will be available through Regatta Central here closer to the event date.

Even a great Board can become a shaky Board if there is turnover and the roles were unclear or the succession plan was not fully thought through. DESCRIPTION:*New Addition* Lower Mainland Regatta \nThis new addition is intended to be a 2000m racing opportunity (1000m for MA) on the Lower Mainland to fill the gap of meaningful racing for Lower Mainland and Interior athletes\, in the lead up to the MetroVancouver and/or Brentwood Regattas. SUMMARY:Maple Bay Regatta (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Maple Bay Regatta hosted by Maple Bay Rowing Club. \nThis 1500m race is intended to provide racing experience to new athletes\, and to those with 2-3 years experience. It has historically been focused on JR\, but will be expanding to include the SR and MA categories\, still with the same regatta purpose. It is primarily attended by athletes from Vancouver Island. Athletes attend for the race experience\, and for the relaxed atmosphere that allows a balance between focusing on racing and fun. This event usually feeds into the progression of regattas every two weeks on Vancouver Island between April and June\, with many of the same athletes attending the series. \nLearn more about the Maple Bay Rowing Club here \nComplete Event Information and Registration will be available through Regatta Central here closer to the event date.

SUMMARY:Monthly Conference Content Series - Roles of a Board and Succession Planning Part 2
\nThe March 2021 Monthly Conference Content Topic provided an initial opportunity to delve into Roles of a Board and Succession Planning to support local sport organizations across BC. The materials from this session are available above. In April 2021\, President of Board Matters Consulting\, Rick Nickelchok\, will continue with Part 2 of the same topic. This session is appropriate for board members and key leadership at local sport organizations\, and is an important pillar in creating a strong\, healthy foundation at the local sport level. \nAccess complete information here
