Most of Rowing BC’s member organization offer rowing programs for Juniors (13-18 years old). In these programs, participants register and train as part of a club team, putting on the club colors at regattas. Click here to find a club/organization near you with rowing opportunities for Juniors.
In addition to regular club programming, a highschool-specific league operates in Victoria and the Lower Mainland.
Highschool Rowing in Victoria
Since 1987, the Greater Victoria Youth Rowing Society (GVYRS) has functioned to encourage high school rowing and youth rowing in the Greater Victoria area by creating a collection of high school rowing teams that train through the Fall out of the Victoria City Rowing Club or Gorge Narrows Rowing Club, and have the chance to race against each other in their school colors at up to three regattas during the season.
Highschool Rowing in the Lower Mainland
New in 2018, a high school rowing league will be running in the Lower Mainland. Students will train at one of five locations across the Lower Mainland – Burnaby Lake Rowing Club (Burnaby), Deep Cove Rowing Club (Deep Cove), Delta Deas Rowing Club (Delta), Fort Langley Youth Rowing Society (Fort Langley), and Thunder Rowing (Richmond). Throughout the Fall season, each school team will have designated practice times 3x per week. The season will wrap up with a high school regatta at which students will race in their school colors against other participating schools.
Schools or individual athletes from the Lower Mainland interested in getting involved in the high school rowing league can find out more by following the linked club names above, or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
