SUMMARY:Development Camp (Mill Bay)
DESCRIPTION:Development Camp (Mill Bay)\nRowing BC\, with support from Brentwood College School Rowing\, will be hosting a Development Camp at Brentwood College School August 22-25\, 2019. This is an opportunity to train alongside other top performing athletes with similar performance goals. \nFour camp streams will be available: \n\nBC Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing their Zone at the 2020 BC Summer Games (must be either U17 or U19 as of December 31\, 2020). This stream will be coached by Rowing BC’s Coaching Coordinator and Para Coach\, Martin George\, and Victoria City Rowing Club Coach\, Leanne Savage\, with support from the coaches selected as Head and Assistant Coaches for each 2020 BC Summer Games Zone from across the province. Athletes from all Zones are encouraged to engage in this early preparation opportunity to become familiar with the race expectations of the BC Summer Games\, and with the coaching staff who have been selected.\nCanada Summer Games Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes with the goal of representing BC at the 2021 Canada Summer Games (must be U21 as of December 31\, 2021). This stream will be coached by Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, with support from RCA NextGen UVIC HUB coach\, Samantha Heron. This is an opportunity to train alongside other athletes performing at a high level\, and benefit from world-class coaching and facilities.\nUniversity Preparation Stream: Intended for athletes wanting to freshen up before heading back to university rowing in September. This steam will be supported by RCA NextGen HUB coaches and other coaches with Olympic experience. This is an ideal preparation opportunity in the final weeks of summer for those preparing for the intense Fall university rowing season.\nCoxswain Development Stream: This stream is limited to the first four coxswains who apply. Coaching will be provided by RCA National Team Coxswain\, Jane Gumley.\n\nAthletes will be divided during on-water sessions based on the stream they have signed up to train with. Nutrition and Mental Performance Sessions will be provided for all streams of camp participants. These sessions will be led by experts provided by the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (Vanessa Zoras for Nutrition\, and Danielle Kabush & Geoff Hackett for Mental Performance). \nThe general schedule of the camp will be as follows: \n \nThe camp cost is all inclusive – covering coaching\, equipment\, meals\, accommodation and workshops. DESCRIPTION:Date: August 10-11th\nLocation: Nelson\, BC\nHosts: Rowing BC\, Nelson Rowing Club\nTopic: Junior Development\nMinimum Participants: 20\nCost to participate: $60 \nThis camp has been created to compliment attending the Nelson Regatta on Saturday\, August 10th. Following the regatta\, participants will have an opportunity to shower/change before returning to begin the camp aspects of the weekend. Saturday afternoon/evening will include a yoga session specifically designed with rowers in mind\, and a technique session led by Rowing BC’s Coach Coordinator\, Martin George. These dryland sessions will allow participants to physically recover from their race day while making use of the time for other types of learning and development. Sunday will include two on-water sessions providing participants with individualized technical assessment and opportunities for fine-tuning. Participants are expected to use the equipment they had provided for racing the day before. Part 3 will be offered in association with the Rowing BC AGM in November 2019 for all members of the BC rowing community. \nEach of these sessions will be focused on building a solid foundation for conflict resolution\, providing participants with a common language and toolkit for dealing with difficult people. Sessions will provide an experiential learning opportunity for practice and application of tools and skills introduced. Sessions will be based on activities and application of knowledge and skills that require all participants to engage. All activities will be applicable to the specific culture of Rowing BC and enable participants to explore how they can translate what they learn into a ‘real life’ context. \nAt the end of this workshop\, participants will be equipped with strategies and skills to minimize\nand diffuse tense situations with difficult people\, to avoid the escalation of conflict and to engage more\nstrongly in problem solving and collaboration. SUMMARY:Rowing BC Coastal Camp (Vancouver)
DESCRIPTION:Date: July 5-7th\nLocation: Vancouver (Jericho Sailing Center)\nHosts: Rowing BC\, Salish Sea Coastal Rowing Club\nTopic: Coastal Rowing\nMinimum Participants: 12\nCost to participate: $275 \nThis camp is an opportunity for flatwater rowers to try coastal rowing\, and for gaining experience in a variety of coastal shells (different sizes\, different brands)\, practising coastal skills in both calm and wavy conditions\, first exposure to what would happen at a beach sprint-format regatta\, first exposure to what would happen at a World Rowing Coastal Championships (WRCC) format regatta and race practice in a beach sprint and WRCC format regatta. This camp is being run to encourage participation in coastal rowing and expand awareness of coastal rowing. This camp is targeted at participants with previous rowing experience equivalent to being comfortable rowing a flatwater 1x\, and those with coastal experience. All participants must be able to swim. Coaching/instruction will be provided through on-land prep sessions before going out for each row. DESCRIPTION:U19 Development Camp (Vernon)\nRowing BC\, with support from the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boating Club\, will be hosting a U19 Development Camp at Swan Lake May 4-5\, 2019. \nThis camp is intended for U19 athletes interested in experiencing a performance development camp. It is an ideal training opportunity for athletes from Zone 1 (Kootenays)\, 2 (Thompson-Okanagan)\, 7 (North West) and 8 (Cariboo-North East) with goals of attending the 2020 BC Summer Games. This camp will include on-water sessions coached by Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, as well as an athlete nutrition session led by Vernon’s P.E.A.R Nutrition\, dryland training led by physio and rower\, Derek Geldrich\, and a special talk from Olympic rower\, Lauren Wilkinson. It is an opportunity to be challenged in a slightly different way than daily club-based training\, and connect with athletes from the wider area who are striving for similar goals. \nParticipants should be comfortable (not an expert\, but comfortable) in a racing single. Home club coaches are expected to help arrange access and transportation for singles for their athletes to use at this camp. Martin George is available to help coordinate these arrangements. \n  \nRegistration will be limited to the first 20 participants to sign up and complete their payment. Additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and notified if space becomes available. Please be sure to indicate your need on the registration form so car pools can be planned accordingly once on the Island. \n2019 UMPIRE COMMITTEE CALL FOR NOMINATIONS \nRowing BC is seeking nominations for individuals to fill positions to be elected to the Rowing BC Umpire Committee during the Annual Umpire Recertification Seminar on January 19\, 2019 in Sidney\, BC. \nThe Umpire Committee is authorized by the Rowing BC By-Laws to conduct their business in accordance with the Umpire Committee Terms of Reference.  The Umpire Committee is responsible for developing and implementing plans and programs in support of the education and development of Umpires in British Columbia. The overall goal of the Umpire Committee is to ensure that Rowing BC and its member organizations have access to a pool of qualified and educated umpires of all levels\, and those individuals in British Columbia who want to become Umpires or to improve their skills as Umpires have access to the training and development opportunities they require.  The Umpire Committee shall report to the Executive Director via the Chairperson. \nThe Umpire Committee will be elected by those Licensed Umpires in British Columbia in attendance at the Annual Umpire Recertification Seminar. The Umpire Committee shall consist of between four (4) to seven (7) individuals as follows: \n\nUp to six (6) Licensed Umpire Representatives\nOne (1) President of Rowing BC\n\nTerm-lengths and number of elected Umpire Representatives each year will be established so as to allow for turnover of half of the Umpire Committee on an annual basis. Generally\, term-lengths will be 2 years. Following their term\, Umpire Representatives may stand for re-election.  The Umpire Committee can appoint a Licensed Umpire to fill a vacancy. \nPlease submit your intent to stand for election via email to Rowing BC Executive Director\, David Calder by Friday\, January 11\, 2019. Individuals are encouraged to submit an accompanying 250 word biography introducing themselves to the umpire community to help inform the election process. Names and biographies of individuals up for election will be emailed to all Umpires in advance of the Recertification Seminar. There will be no nominations from the floor.
