Maple Bay Rowing Club inspires the love of rowing in the Cowichan Valley through community and safe sport practices. With a proud history and drive to continue to trail blaze, Maple Bay Rowing Club looks to grow and support the sport of rowing, as well as support, develop and grow its athletes and their participation and practice of the sport.
As a Summer Coach, you will work 30 hours a week for 10 weeks starting June 1 or as soon as available, to coach and support our ongoing summer programs. The primary focus of the Summer Coaches will be to coach and support the Learn-To-Row programs. This includes ongoing Youth Learn-to-Row summer camps, and Adult Evening Learn to Row sessions as well as the Intermediate Skills Development group. Additional program assistance and general boat maintenance work will be required as needed. This position is funded in part through the Federal Government’s Canada Summer Job’s grant, and therefore this position must be fulfilled by coaches under the age of 30.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilitate and coach the Youth Summer Camp Learn to Row programs
• Facilitate and coach the Adult Evening Learn to Row programs
• Facilitate and coach the Intermediate Development program
• Work under the support and supervision of the Club’s Head Coach
• Assist in regular maintenance and care work of club boats, equipment and other assets
• Perform other additional support duties as required

Desired Qualifications
• Pleasure Craft Operators Licence (or willingness to obtain before start of employment)
• RCA Learn to Row coaching qualifications
• Minimum requirements met for RCA “Every Coach Qualified” standards
• Previous experience in the sport of rowing as either an athlete or coach
• As this position is in part funded by the Federal Summer Jobs grant, applicants must be under the age of 30
