If you have a yoga mat and exercise band\, please bring those with you for the sessions with Derek Geldrich. If you don’t have one\, he will have some that can be borrowed. There will be a lunch break\, but during that time some of the UVIC athletes will be sharing their experiences of being on a Varsity team\, so you may want to be able to stay on site to hear that. SUMMARY:U19 Development Camp (Vernon)
DESCRIPTION:U19 Development Camp (Vernon)\nRowing BC\, with support from the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boating Club\, will be hosting a U19 Development Camp at Swan Lake May 4-5\, 2019. \nThis camp is intended for U19 athletes interested in experiencing a performance development camp. It is an ideal training opportunity for athletes from Zone 1 (Kootenays)\, 2 (Thompson-Okanagan)\, 7 (North West) and 8 (Cariboo-North East) with goals of attending the 2020 BC Summer Games. This camp will include on-water sessions coached by Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach\, Rob Richards\, as well as an athlete nutrition session led by Vernon’s P.E.A.R Nutrition\, dryland training led by physio and rower\, Derek Geldrich\, and a special talk from Olympic rower\, Lauren Wilkinson. It is an opportunity to be challenged in a slightly different way than daily club-based training\, and connect with athletes from the wider area who are striving for similar goals. \nParticipants should be comfortable (not an expert\, but comfortable) in a racing single. Home club coaches are expected to help arrange access and transportation for singles for their athletes to use at this camp. Martin George is available to help coordinate these arrangements. \n  \nRegistration will be limited to the first 20 participants to sign up and complete their payment. Additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and notified if space becomes available. The camp will include two and a half days of rowing\, cross-country mountain biking and hiking. Experienced Masters coaches will facilitate technical focused rows and video analysis each morning\, followed by an exciting non-rowing experience each afternoon on Silver Star Mountain. Participants will have the chance to bond over their new sport experiences and enjoying a group dinner each evening. If you’re looking for an active way to spend the Labor Day Long Weekend\, this is it! \nGuest Coach Jessica Lowe learned to row at Boston University and from 2000 – 2010 was a member of Seattle’s Pocock Rowing Center where she helped obtain several wins for the club as stroke and team member of the Women’s 8+ including a Bronze in the Head of the Charles Club 8+\, 1st place at the San Diego Crew Classic and several wins at the Opening Day regatta\, Canadian Masters and US Masters National Rowing Championships.  As masters coach at the Vancouver Rowing Club she shepherded  the W 40+ 4+ to a 2nd place finish at the 2017 Head of the Charles Regatta. Jessica has also competed in sculling and appreciates the differences between the two disciplines. At the Vancouver Rowing Club she coaches both sculling and sweep. She is passionate in helping rowers establish a strong technical and fitness base that will allow them to successfully pursue any level of rowing they desire. \nRegistration includes a limited-edition Rowing BC Masters Camp long-sleeved technical shirt for all participants. DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in joining the umpire community? \nThis New Umpire Clinic will prepare you to be an Assistant Umpire. Assistant Umpires continue their learning journey by shadowing Licensed Umpires in the five major umpire roles through local regattas as they are available. Assistant Umpires may then choose when they feel ready to move on to Associate Umpire Training and eventually taking the Umpire Exam.
