Rowing BC was selected by the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation to select two recipients for this year’s Trudy & Doug Peden Women In Sports Award. The award recipients are female post-secondary athletes, selected based on work ethic, commitment and performance. The award includes a $3000 monetary prize.

Rowing BC is pleased to announce the recipients for 2025: Elena Masyte (University of Victoria) and Kate Watson (University of Victoria)

Elena is a fourth year student at the University of Victoria and has been a varsity athlete since joining. She is one of the top lightweights, wanting to pursue her career as a coach after her rowing career is over. She is funding her own education and has been selected to race the lwt 4+ and 1x for CURCs. Outside of her classes and training, Elena can be regularly found coaching for Victoria City Rowing Club juniors and masters programs.

Kate is a second year student at the University of Victoria. She is a leader in the program (assistant captain), top lightweight performer racing in the lwt 2x and 4+ at CURCs. She has made a hugely positive impact on the team since starting last year. She has an incredibly positive attitude and hard work ethic that is spreading across the team.

Rowing BC would like to thank the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation again for their contribution to these athletes, and for choosing Rowing BC.
