Rowing BC Annual Awards

Rowing BC gives out Annual Awards in the following categories:

  • Athlete of the Year
  • Club Coach of the Year
  • Performance Coach of the Year
  • Outstanding Volunteer(s) of the Year
  • Umpire of the Year

Information about the Annual Awards, and your opportunity to submit nominations, is released each Fall in advance of the Rowing BC AGM. For more information, contact memberservices@rowingbc.ca.

This version of Rowing BC’s Annual Awards began in 2018, thanks in part to the Rowing BC Awards and Recognition Taskforce that existed at that time, following many years where there were no provincial award opportunities.

External Awards and Recognition

The Rowing BC Awards and Recognition Committee has put together a database of external awards that members of the rowing community may be eligible for. These lists are by no means exhaustive and additional awards may be available. If you know of any relevant awards that are not currently listed, please let us know by contacting memberservices@rowingbc.ca. When appropriate, Rowing BC does nominate individuals for external awards, but clubs, organizations and individuals should also be aware of which awards they could be applying for on behalf of individuals they think are deserving of recognition.

External Awards Opportunities:

Recognizes one male and one female Indigenous athlete for their outstanding contributions to sport in Canada.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame accepts nominations for athletes in three categories: Athlete, Team, Pioneer.

Recognizes Indigenous athletes under 25 who have achieved excellence in performance sport and are regarded for their leadership qualities both on and off the field of play. This award includes a $500 bursary for provincial recipients.

Rowing Canada offers annual athlete awards in five categories: Senior Athlete of the Year, U-23 Athlete of the Year, Junior Athlete of the Year, Para Rower of the Year,  and the Tony Zasada Memorial Award

Sport BC offers athlete awards in ten annual award categories: Best of BC, Athlete with a Disability, High School Athlete, Junior Athlete, College Athlete, University Athlete, Senior Athlete, Masters Athlete, Team of the Year, Harry Jerome Comeback Award.

Recognizes an Indigenous coach who has made an outstanding difference in sport development, from the community level all the way to elite competition. The awards include a male and female category.

The CAC strives to recognize coaches and organizations who reflect the diverse makeup of Canada and celebrates their tremendous contributions to its sport in Canada and to the success of its participants on and off the field of play. Awards are given in eight categories: Lifetime Achievement Award, Impact Award, NCCP Coach Developer Award, Coach of the Year Award, PetroCanada Coaching Excellence Awards, National Indigenous Coaching Award, Legacy Award, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Awards are given to coaches in two categories: Coach of the Year, and Jack Nicholson Coaching Bursary.

Recognizes a one female and one male coach who has been responsible for coaching an amateur team or individual athletes at any level of athletic competition.

RCA offers two award categories that may be applicable to umpires: Umpire of the Year Award, and Long Service Award.

Recognizes an official, male or female, who has been responsible for officiating sport events at any level of athletic competition.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame has two award categories that apply to volunteers: Builder Awards, and WAC Bennett Awards.

Canada’s Volunteer Awards recognize volunteers, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses for their contributions across the country. The Awards highlight the many ways that volunteering strengthens communities.

Recognizes a woman who has made a significant impact in sport in British Columbia throughout her career, worked to create access and opportunities for participation in sport and recreation and inspires through her own achievement, passion, and dedication.

There are four RCA award categories that many be applicable to volunteers: Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Long Service Award, President’s Award.

There are two Sport BC award categories that may be applicable to volunteers: Daryl Thompson Award, and Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation Award.

Recognizes not-for-profit organizations that address social challenges in an innovative way.

Presented to an RCA Club that has undertaken a new project/initiative that demonstrates outstanding leadership, innovation or success and has had a significant impact.
