WORKSHOP: RCA Coach Weekend 1 Hybrid Workshop (Day 1 of 3)

Workshop Overview:

The RCA Coach Workshop is intended for coaches who will be working with athletes interested in regional and provincial competition (those in the Train to Train and Learn to Compete stage of Long Term Athlete Development).

This workshop is divided into two weekends of learning – RCA Coach Weekend 1 Workshop and RCA Coach Weekend 2 Workshop. In general, it is encouraged that coaches leave a gap between taking these workshops in order to develop their portfolio and use the knowledge gained from the first workshop before returning for the second one.

In these workshops you will learn about and discuss: Long Term Athlete Development, analyzing rowing technique, analyzing rigging (including adaptations for para athletes), designing a sport program, movement screens, planning a practice, supporting athletes in training, testing and monitoring athlete performance, and supporting competitive experiences.

Following completion of this workshop your status will be “RCA Coach In-Training” and you will be ready to take the RCA Coach Weekend 2 Workshop within a few months (keep an eye out for options in the Fall!).

This workshop will be delivered in a hybrid format, split across three dates:

  • Monday, August 25th 5:45-9:00 PM (via Zoom)
  • Thursday, August 28th 5:45-9:00 PM (via Zoom)
  • Sunday, August 31st 9:30 AM-4:00 PM (in-person – Vernon, BC)

Full engagement during all three sessions is required to have completed the RCA Coach Weekend 1 workshop.

Registration:  Registration and payment ($275 workshop fee) is available through EventBrite HERE.

Pre-requisites: 

Before taking this workshop, all coaches must have completed the following RCA Every Coach Certified Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check
  • NCCP Coach Initiation In Sport (Online Module)
  • RCA Rowing Essentials (Online Module)
  • Making Ethical Decisions Module (Multiple Delivery Options Available)

In addition, coaches are expected to have a Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card.
