The phrase Safe Sport has become ubiquitous in sport spaces over the past several years, and while the words are the same, the ideas and policies continue to evolve.

Rowing Canada Aviron has a Safe Sport Policy Taskforce, which includes Rowing BC’s Safe Sport Lead Lisa Tschannen. The TaskForce has been working on updating some of the Safe Sport policies. These updates should clarify some of the issues that were found problematic and confusing by clubs and individuals. There is also work underway to create shorter and more easily accessible materials for the general rowing population. It is important that everyone understand what behaviour is appropriate, and what to do when it is not.
Rowing BC has recently updated the Safe Sport page of the Rowing BC website.
To help with understanding of the Complaint Management Process, Rowing BC has created a flow chart to show how the process works. An important thing to note when a complaint needs to be filed is that there are two potential avenues. Most complaints should go to the Independent Third Party, Lise Maclean with Wiser Workplaces. The flow chart should help you confirm that, and will show all interested parties the process.
