2024 Rowing BC Annual Umpire Seminar

41 BC-based umpires came together for education, recognition and socializing at the Rowing BC Annual Umpire Seminar on November 16th.

Educational sessions were provided by Rowing BC staff, Rowing BC Umpire Committee members, and BC-based umpire clinicians on topics ranging from rules of racing to communication tools and Safe Sport. The group was also lucky to be joined by Andrea Wooles from viaSport who shared information about the Flag Tool which can be used for making decisions about the appropriateness of questionable interactions anywhere in the sporting environment.

While the entire rowing community appreciates the work that is done by umpires, there were several people who were specifically recognized during the seminar. Three people became licensed umpires during 2024: Dennis Rutherford, Kate Rutherford, and Andrew Johnstone. Thank you to all three for their commitment to safe and fair racing! There was also a moment used to acknowledge Rowing BC’s Umpire of the Year: Tim Henderson. Congratulations, Tim!
