BC athletes on the International Stage

2026 International Rowing Challenge (U19) | July 9-11 in Michigan, USA

4 BC athletes raced for Canada at the International Rowing Challenge during the 2026 US Row Fest in Michigan, USA. This included Matthew Bedford (Vancouver College), Owen Mayhew (Vancouver College), Erik Eichmeyer (Brentwood Rowing), and Brock van der Boom-Bebb (Brentwood College) with additional support from BC coach Steven Randall (UVIC).

Erik Eichmeyer (Brentwood Rowing) and Brock van der Boom-Bebb (Brentwood College) finished 3rd in the Men’s 2-, while Matthew Bedford (Vancouver College) coxed the Women’s 4+ to a silver medal. Matthew Bedford (Vancouver College), Owen Mayhew (Vancouver College), Erik Eichmeyer (Brentwood Rowing), and Brock van der Boom-Bebb (Brentwood College) were also all members of the Bronze medal Men’s 4+.

2026 World Rowing U23 Championships | July 23-26 in Duisburg, Germany

6 BC athletes represented Canada at the World Rowing U23 Championships earlier this summer in Germany. This included Bethany Nordstrom (Victoria City Rowing Club), Madelyn Vandermeer (UBC), Lucy Hallett (Victoria City Rowing Club), Novella Rusman (Brentwood Rowing), Connor Bohlmann (Vancouver College Rowing), and Owen Marcovitz (Victoria City Rowing Club).

2026 FISU World University Rowing Championships | August 13-15 in London, Ontario

15 BC athletes were selected to represent Canada at the 2026 FISA World University Rowing Championships hosted in London, Ontario. This included Oliver Page-Kuhr (UBC), Gabe Dyer (UVIC), Simon Whittaker (UVIC), Owen Bartel (UBC), Thomas Boruta (UVIC), Adrian Breen (UBC), Benjamin Buchheit (UBC), Ben Maijer (UBC), Maijken Meindertsma (UBC), Robert Walsh (UBC), Oscar Wostenholme (UBC), Gabby Yarema (UBC), Claire Hallett (UBC), Natasha Witts (UBC), and Willow Cherewaty (UBC). Mike Pearce (UBC) supported the team as one of this year’s coaches.

Gabe Dyer (UVIC) and Simon Whittaker (UVIC) were in the Bronze medal-winning Men’s 4-, one of Canada’s two medals at the regatta.

2026 World Rowing Championships | August 24-30 in Amsterdam, Netherlands

6 BC athletes are currently (at the time of this newsletter release) in the Netherlands to represent Canada at the World Rowing Championships. This includes Axel Ewashko (UBC/Brentwood Rowing), Katie Clark (UBC), Alexis Cronk (UVIC), Sally Jones (UBC/Victoria City Rowing Club), Kristen Kit (UBC), and Avalon Wasteneys (UVIC).
