The Canada Games is a multi-sport and cultural event that brings together the best athletes from each Canadian province and territory. The Games provide the stimulus for Canadian youth to reach their athletic potential, pursue personal excellence and develop socially and culturally within the context of ethical competition.
Covid-19 Update to the 2021 Canada Summer Games:
As of September 19, 2020 the 2021 Canada Summer Games to be held in the Niagara Region of Ontario have been postponed until 2022. Read the full announcement here.
In response, Rowing BC’s Head Coach, Rob Richards sent the following statement to all Team BC-eligible rowing athletes:
Rowing BC fully supports this athlete-focused decision by the Canada Games Council, and is looking forward to attending the games in 2022.Rowing BC understands that this change could be upsetting for some athletes. We are working with Team BC to fully understand how this decision will impact our athletes and coaches and will share that information with you as soon as it is known.As of today, all planning, development, and selection activities are under review. The Canada Summer Games (CSG) is Canada’s largest youth focused multi-sport event that provides competition opportunities for developing athletes. The 2022 CSG will be held in Niagara, Ontario, with the rowing portion being hosted in St Catharines, Ontario. The team size is a maximum of 12 female athletes and 12 male athletes, plus 2 coxswains, all born in 2001 or later. Section 2.1 of the CSG Technical Package follows the Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) Rules of Racing by stating that “a female crew may be coxed by either a female or a male and a male crew may be coxed by either a female or male.”
