The Faces Behind Rowing BC – CRAIG RUTHERFORD
In his own words:
I started rowing in high school in Nanaimo in one of the classic wooden eights that Nanaimo still had. Either that boat was super heavy or 13-year-old me was super weak.
I have been on various committees and working groups over the years including the regatta review working group and now I am currently part of the coastal rowing development task force. My latest interest in developing coastal rowing came after racing the 2018 World Coastal Rowing Championships and discovering the unique excitement and challenges of coastal rowing.
I am lucky to have my passion for rowing be my full-time job as the head coach of the Nanaimo Rowing Club. If I am not at the rowing club I can usually be found on a hike or a bike ride with my wife Kylie and our two kids Adilyn, age 4 and Beauden, age 1. I have also recently signed up for an Ironman triathlon, so I guess I will need to figure out the swim part of that in the near future.
