The Faces Behind Rowing BC – JENNIFER PARFITT

In her own words:

I started rowing in grade 10 and was petrified at how close the water was to me!  The coach used to be a coxswain and thought it would be a good idea to stand on the gunwales in the cox seat and rock the boat back and forth to give us a sense of “balance”.  Luckily, I had friends I liked doing the sport with or I wouldn’t have come back…

My first experience with Rowing BC was in 1989 when I went to the Canada Games.  I was so proud to represent B.C. and I still have my somewhat dated (and a little small now) Team BC racing uniform.  I will never forget that amazing summer; training hard, hanging out with awesome teammates, representing BC and winning two gold medals! In early 2000 I volunteered on the Rowing BC Board for about a year as a director at large and loved that I could contribute back given what Rowing BC had done for me as a young competitor.  As a busy mom of two now, I am so happy that I can stay involved with rowing but have the flexibility of a part time job with Rowing BC.

Outside of rowing our family loves to fish, swim and boat on the ocean, surf, camp and now hike with our new puppy!  I also love playing field hockey and enjoy my Saturday games and drinks afterwards with my team!
