Rowing BC Awards and Recognition

The Rowing BC Awards and Recognition Taskforce has created an awards program to support Rowing BC’s 2018 – 2021 Strategic Plan, specifically Strategic Direction 1, Goal 2, which states that Rowing BC will “Support a healthy athlete-centred rowing system” and “Enhance recognition of participants within the system.”   

On November 17th, during the 2018 Rowing BC Conference and AGM, as a community we will celebrate the people that make rowing in BC so great.  Rowing BC will be presenting awards in the following five categories (all categories will not necessarily be awarded annually):

  • Athlete of the Year;
  • High-Performance Coach of the Year;
  • Learn-to-Row Coach of the Year;
  • Rowing BC Umpire of the Year; and
  • Outstanding Volunteer Certificates.

Athlete of the Year

Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach will select the Athlete of the Year based on performance outcomes.

High Performance Coach of the Year

Rowing BC’s Provincial Coach will select the High Performance Coach of the Year based on performance outcomes.

Rowing BC is asking BC-based rowing clubs and associations to nominate deserving people for the Learn-to-Row Coach of the Year and to select up to three community members to receive an Outstanding Volunteer Certificate.  

Learn-to-Row Coach of the Year

This award will be presented to an individual who has gone above and beyond in coaching newcomers to the sport, and to facilitate the continued the growth of rowing in British Columbia.  The recipient of this award will be determined by the Rowing BC Awards & Recognition Task Force following a review of nominations by Rowing BC member clubs and associations. To nominate a member of your club or association for the Learn-to-Row Coach of the Year please fill out this nomination form.

Outstanding Volunteer Certificates

These certificates recognize the great contribution made by volunteers who freely give of their time to support and develop rowing in British Columbia. The recipients of these certificates will be determined by Rowing BC member clubs and associations and will be reviewed by the Awards and Recognition Task Force.  Recipients must have made significant contributions to their particular sector or event over a period of at least two years. Rowing BC clubs and associations will be given a maximum of 3 certificates to award annually. To submit names please fill out this submission form.

Rowing BC Umpire of the Year

This award is to recognize longstanding and significant contributions to Umpiring in British Columbia. Nominations will be reviewed by the Rowing BC Umpire Committee, the President of Rowing BC and will be confirmed by the Awards and Recognition Taskforce.  To nominate a member of the Rowing BC Umpire Community for the Umpire of the Year please fill out this nomination form.
