A strong end to the highschool racing season for BC crews at the CSSRA Regatta…
Indoor rowing season was a great success. Between Beat the Beast and Kraken Erg, there were over 600 entries. Congratulations to St. George’s School and Brentwood College School for organizing such great events.
February saw some coach development activities including a Rigging Workshop at Vancouver Rowing Club. Several coaches from across the Lower Mainland spent some quality time with Rowing BC Director of Performance, Terry Paul. The time flew by as participants were able to watch, practice, and ask questions. The workshop started with standard rig, but the group was able to delve into more details around the purpose of making rigging adjustments. Understanding how to increase athlete comfort and allow for greater efficiency in the work-through is part of the philosophy of rigging that Terry and the group discussed.

Earlier in the month, nine coaches took part in RCA Coach Weekend 1 training at Elk Lake. The workshop was facilitated by Rowing BC’s Manager of Education, Innovation and Inclusion, Lisa Tschannen.

The next step for these coaches is to put their learning into practice by completing some practical assignments between now and their Weekend 2 workshop. Then, when they’re ready, a coach evaluator will help them to determe the effectiveness of their practicices through the certification process. If you have questions about your own coaching pathway, you can always reach out to Lisa by email.
