Rowing BC is honoured to present two Trudy & Doug Peden Women In Sports Awards

Rowing BC was selected by the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation to select two recipients for this year’s Trudy & Doug Peden Women In Sports Award. The award recipients are female post-secondary athletes, selected based on work ethic, commitment and performance. The award includes a $3000 monetary prize.

Rowing BC is pleased to announce the recipients for 2024: Emma Kingsland and Belen (Julia) Reed. 

Rowing BC would like to thank the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation again for their contribution to these athletes, and for choosing Rowing BC. 

Emma Kingsland from Simon Fraser University Rowing Team

Emma started as a novice in October 2023 and quickly became a pivotal member of our team. She has contributed significantly to the program’s success in her efforts on and off the water. She is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Resource and Environmental Management with a Minor in Biology. Emma is a team player and always has a positive sportsmanship mentality. She is continually looking for ways to support the team in her role with the executive and hopes these opportunities help her further develop her skills for her career post-university.

Belen (Julia) Reed from the University of Victoria Rowing Team

Belen is a 3^rd year student athlete. She started as a novice athlete with the program 2 years ago, progressed quickly and competed with UVIC’s varsity crew for the 2023 Canadian University Rowing Champships and 2024 Brown Cup. She is now a banner winner from the 2024 Canadian University Rowing Championships and gold medalist in the Women’s 8+. She has quickly become one of the leaders on the team in terms of work ethic. She has a great attitude, is very coachable and works incredibly hard. I (Jane) could see her representing Canada at the U23 or Senior level at some point in her life, as she has the required drive and skill.
