The 2024 Rowing BC AGM will be held virtually on Wednesday, November 13 at 7:30pm. …
Rowing BC is very fortunate to have been chosen by the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation to administer the Trudy and Doug Peden Women in Sports Award to two deserving female athletes within our organization. Both Trudy & Doug Peden had a passion for helping young women in sport and made many contributions to sport in Victoria and Canada.
This award of $2500 was given to two female student-athletes within Rowing BC who are currently pursuing post-secondary education and who have demonstrated consistently high work ethic, commitment and performance criteria. The intent is to provide financial assistance for women in sport, desiring to advance their post-secondary education.
We would like to congratulate Charisse (Sai Sai) Faubert and Mary Law who were chosen as the recipients for 2023. Congratulations!
- Sai Sai Faubert from the University of Victoria Rowing Team
Sai Sai is a third year student at the University of Victoria and has been a varsity athlete all three years. At the 2023 Canadian University Rowing Championships she placed third in the lightweight women’s single and second in the lightweight women’s four. Outside of her classes and training, Sai Sai can be regularly found coaching for Victoria City Rowing Club juniors and masters programs. She also volunteers her time for adaptive and gender equity initiatives.
- Mary Law from the University of British Columbia Rowing Team
Mary has rowed at UBC on the varsity team for the past four years. She has worked tirelessly on and off the water to improve not only her own performance but the performance of her teammates resulting in a silver medal at Canadian University Rowing Championships this past year. Mary was also an Academic All Canadian. Mary has been a positive ambassador of the sport and continues to help future athletes as a coach with the Thunder Rowing Team.
Rowing BC would like to thank the Trudy & Doug Peden Charitable Foundation for their support and contribution.
