U19 Development Camp in Vernon
A U19 development camp was held at Swan Lake in Vernon over the weekend of May 4-5. 2019. This is the second of four U19 Development Camps planned for 2019. This Development Series is a new initiative by Rowing BC to assist Junior athletes and their coaches in achieving their goals. Information on the camps is available on the Rowing BC website here.
The camp ran over two days, with lots of on-water time led by Rowing BC Provincial Coach, Rob Richards, supported by Rowing BC Coaching Coordinator & Para Coach, Martin George and Olympian Lauren Wilkinson.
16 Juniors from 4 clubs (Vancouver, Vernon, Kelowna and Sth Cariboo) participated in the camp, and were also offered sessions on Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and a talk by Lauren on Sport/Life balance.
Perfect water conditions and warm weather enabled the athletes to take full advantage of this opportunity to continue to develop their skills and knowledge.
“Rowing BC is really pleased to see so many Juniors stepping up and being involved in these camps”, said Provincial Coach Rob Richards, “These camps not only provide the athletes with feedback on their progress, they also provide valuable Sport Science support, which is essential to athlete development”
The next Development Camp in the series is being held in Mill Bay from August 22-25. Information and sign up is here.
